What This Is About

The Bank Hotel Istanbul is a member of Design Hotels by Marriott International inside a bank building from 1867. Everything about it looks back: the vaults, the marble, the street it stands on. The hotel wanted the guest experience to look forward.

The brief was to bring the two together. Keep the history where guests can see and touch it. Put the way the hotel communicates, serves and runs its rooms firmly in the present.

Since 12 May 2026, every one of its 61 rooms has a SuitePad tablet. In the first four months guests spent 186 hours on the devices, 5:21 at a time, and chose to skip 251 housekeeping nights, saving the hotel €2,008 in cleaning cost. 90% of the guests who left feedback on the device said they were happy.

About The Bank Hotel Istanbul

The Bank Hotel Istanbul is a member of Design Hotels, Marriott International's collection of independent, design-led properties. It has 61 rooms in Karaköy, on Bankalar Caddesi (Banks Street), the street that was once the financial centre of the Ottoman Empire.

The building dates from 1867 and opened as a hotel in 2014. The original vaults are still in place and now serve as meeting rooms. Serica, the hotel's restaurant, sits on the sixth floor with views over the old city. Downstairs, the spa is built around a white marble Turkish hammam.

As a Design Hotels member, the hotel carries the Marriott International name and standards while keeping a character that is entirely its own.

History in the Walls, the Future on the Nightstand

A design hotel is careful about what goes into a room. Every object is a decision. A printed directory, a stack of cards and a desk phone are none of the things a guest remembers about a 19th-century bank which is then transformed into a luxury hotel.

The hotel wanted one device that could replace them. Something that holds the full offer of the house, in the guest's language, and stays current without reprinting anything.

The idea was never to modernise the building. It was to let the building stay what it is, and move everything that changes onto a screen.

City Guests, Five Minutes at a Time

A city hotel guest spends most of the day outside. So you would expect the screen in the room to get a quick look and nothing more. That is not what happened.

6,882pages viewed on the device
5:21average time per session

The number to look at is 5:21. That is how long a guest stayed on the screen each time they picked it up. Five minutes is long enough to read the whole room service menu, check the spa opening hours and browse the history of the building. It is not a swipe past the home screen. For comparison, on most hotel tablets a guest is done in under three minutes.

Over four months that adds up to 186 hours of guest attention. That is 34 sessions per room, or about 42 minutes on every device every month. Put another way: each room had a guest reading the screen for roughly the length of a TV episode, every month.

What they looked at

Room service and the Wellness & Spa section got the most views. Every visitor to Istanbul has a hammam on their list. Here, they found out there was one downstairs in their own hotel.

251 Nights Without Housekeeping, €2,008 Saved

The Green Option lets a guest turn down housekeeping from the screen in the room. One tap, and the room is skipped for that night, or for the whole stay.

For the guest it means no knock on the door mid-morning. For the hotel it means a room that does not need cleaning, and a housekeeping team that sees the list the day before instead of finding out at the door.

In four months, guests made 154 confirmed Green Option requests covering 251 housekeeping nights. At the hotel's own cost per clean, that is €2,008 saved.

1.6nights per request on average

Most guests did not skip a single night. 123 of the 154 requests covered the entire stay, which tells the housekeeping team something useful: once a guest decides, they rarely change their mind.

Beyond the saving

Fewer linens washed, less water and fewer chemicals used, in a building that has already lasted 150 years. Nobody had to ask the guest. The option was simply there.

164 Conversations the Front Desk Did Not Have to Take

Guests also ask the tablet questions. The kind that used to mean a call to reception: when the restaurant opens, how to reach the Galata Tower, where to find the spa. SuitePad AI answers from the hotel's own information.

Each of those is a call that did not ring at reception. At a 61-room hotel, the front desk is a small team. Their time stays with the guest standing in front of them.

90% Happy, and the Hotel Knows Before Check-Out

A hotel usually learns what a guest thought after they have left, in a public review. Quick Feedback moves that moment into the stay. The tablet asks one simple question, and the guest answers with a tap.

Quick Feedback responses on the SuitePad in-room tablet, 12 May to 11 September 2026.

Between May and September, 125 of 139 guests rated their stay as happy. That is a strong score for any hotel, and a useful one for a member of Design Hotels by Marriott International where guest satisfaction is measured closely.

The ten unhappy answers matter just as much. Each one reached the team while the guest was still in the house. That is the difference between fixing a problem and reading about it later.

Our building tells a story from 1867. We wanted the guest experience inside it to belong to the future. SuitePad let us do both without changing the character of a single room.

What Comes Next

The Bank Hotel set out to show that a historic house and forward-looking hospitality belong together. The first four months say they do. Guests use the device, they stay on it, and they use it to make choices that save the hotel work.

The next step is a deeper connection to the hotel's property management system, so the tablet can greet each guest by name and tailor what it shows to their stay. The first full year will show what a complete season looks like.

The vaults are still downstairs. What changed is how the hotel speaks to the guests sleeping above them.
